Places to visit:

Hidden gems of Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka is an island filled with picturesque beaches, tea plantations, historic temples, and exotic wildlife. In other words, it has everything! There is rafting, snorkeling, biking, tuk-tuking, swimming, surfing, hiking, taking a train ride, and more amid the incredible landscape of this beautiful island. Also go on a safari to view elephants, leopards, crocodiles, and other fascinating animals. Lastly, unwind and eat in some of the nation’s most exquisite boutique hotels and adventure lodges.

Go trekking in Nepal:

Adventurous types should spend New Year’s Eve trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal. There are two of the best high-altitude treks in the world in this region: the Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit trek. The trail to Everest Base Camp is stunning, winding its way through forests and steep mountain valleys, past waterfalls and glaciers, across barren plains, and under the watchful gaze of some of the world’s mightiest peaks. A similar sense of awe-inspiring landscape awaits you on the Annapurna Circuit, which culminates at the approximately 6,000-foot-high Thorung La mountain pass.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam:

Vietnam visitors should spend New Year’s Eve in Hanoi (Ho Chi Minh, previously Saigon). There’s Vietnam’s biggest party. This city is the best spot to celebrate NYE. Thousands celebrate this festival along the Saigon River. They’ve congregated at Ho Chi Minh City’s tallest skyscraper to see midnight fireworks. Enjoy the fireworks from a boat on Saigon. Spend the afternoon at one of the city’s fine restaurants or rooftop pubs before the midnight fireworks.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

The New Year’s Eve celebration in Rio is widely regarded as one of the best in the world and undoubtedly the best in all of South America. The local celebration, known as Rebellion, is on par with the more famous Carnival in terms of spectacle and excitement. It’s no surprise that the festivities in Rio immediately spread to the city’s streets and the world-famous Copacabana Beach. Millions of people from all over the world come to Copacabana to see the midnight fireworks extravaganza and party into the wee hours of the morning.

Chiang Mai, Thailand:

Chiang Mai, Thailand, like the rest of the world, celebrates the end of the old year and the beginning of the new by releasing thousands of paper lanterns into the sky. At midnight, locals and visitors alike assemble on the banks of the Ping River to release lanterns into the night sky amidst a flurry of cheers and a stunning backdrop of fireworks in this city surrounded by forests.
