1. Get Your Admission Badge
For only $30, you may gain access to all 22 of the party’s indoor locations in Old Town with a First Night badge. In addition, all military personnel and children under the age of 12 go free! Badges can be picked up on New Year’s Eve at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, and the Durant Arts Center starting at noon (beginning at 7 p.m.). In order to receive your online-purchased badge by New Year’s Eve, it must be picked up from the Alexandria Visitor Center beginning on December 21. (Call 703-838-5005 for hours). First Night in Alexandria is the largest family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration in D.C. It’s a huge area, and jam-packed with fun things for kids of all ages to do. Sculptures made of balloons? Does the world really need more magic shows? Dancing? Yes, we have it! The good times begin right away! Fun events like the yearly Fun Hunt around Old Town, a pet painting competition at the Torpedo Factory, and story time with Paddington Bear at Hooray for Books! are all held during the day. Lower King Street, where the first and sometimes second blocks are restricted to traffic, is an excellent vantage point. The steps of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial provide an excellent vantage point for the New Year’s Eve fireworks display, where you may also ring in the new year with friends and family.
